Toronto Streetcar Switch Controller

Bridge Fusion Systems, in conjunction with our partner SSES, accidentally became the supplier for the Toronto Streetcar System’s switch controller.  This device is part of the equipment allows the vehicle drive to choose the direction to turn when approaching an intersection. It receives and decodes messages from the vehicle as well as applies power to the switch to steer the car in the requested direction.

The RTP-110 switch controller was developed by reverse engineering the behaviors of the legacy devices that performed this same function.  Bridge Fusion Systems was responsible for the electronics, software and mechanical parts of the system. In addition, Bridge Fusion Systems generated the required documentation demonstrating the requirements, design and testing needed to construct a safe and reliable controller.  This system received a safety certification necessary for its use in revenue service.

BOSS Controls

Boss Controls initially approached Bridge Fusion Systems for help building a production test fixture for their product that was in development. We developed the mechanical, electrical and communication system necessary to perform a complete functional test on the product using its WiFi connection for communications. When a programming fixture was needed to load production software into the product’s programmable devices, Bridge Fusion Systems was also able to build both the mechanical and some customized embedded systems to implement these programming operations.

When Boss Controls needed additional embedded software expertise, Bridge Fusion Systems was able to step in and improve the product’s firmware.  Additional features have been successfully added and reliability greatly improved since we became their supplier of embedded programming services.
